Q: How is the ITB organized?
A: The Information and Technology Branch
(ITB) is headed by the FBI Chief Information Officer (CIO),
and is responsible for the leadership, policy guidance,
and strategic direction for the FBI's Information Technology
(IT) enterprise. This responsibility includes development
of the FBI's strategic plan and operating budget, developing
and maintaining the FBI's technology assets, and providing
technical direction for the reengineering of FBI business
processes. The CIO is assisted by a Deputy CIO, who
also serves as the FBI's Business Process Reengineering
Executive. There are four divisions under the ITB
as follows:
- Office of IT Policy and Planning -
The Office of IT Policy and Planning is headed by
a Program Management Executive and is responsible
for optimizing FBI IT resources through policy and
planning, providing guidance for integrating FBI
IT strategies and solutions, and the governance
framework that ensures compliance.
- Information Technology Systems Development

Information Technology Systems Development is headed
by the Chief Technology Officer, and is responsible
for creating enterprise-level IT capabilities. It
performs research, technical development, and systems
engineering support for new IT systems and selected
existing systems.
- Office of IT Program Management -
The Office of IT Program Management is headed by
a Program Management Executive and is responsible
for the development and implementation management
of IT projects, doing so within established schedules
and budgets.
- Information Technology Operations Division

The Information Technology Operations Division is
headed by an Assistant Director and is responsible
for providing a robust, secure global information
technology infrastructure through operational excellence
and delivery of quality services too the enterprise.
